Where did the past year go? It seems like yesterday that the President was re-elected and inaugurated for a second term. In January, we were looking ahead to this year.

Now 52 weeks and 52 blog posts later we decided to review the topics that generated the most traffic. We were curious to know the posts that got a big “thumbs up” from our readers.

The “Big Three”

The moderator may be the most important presenter on the panel, because it is her role, Denise said, to engage the audience and keep the panelists on topic. Coming in at number two was Use Power Words in Presentations and Media Interviews. Our advice is to banish tentative words such as “I think” and replace them with power words like “I’m convinced.”

We had fun writing number three, How a Famous Quote Can Turn a Good Performance into a Memorable One. John F. Kennedy’s “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” entered the lexicon as one of the most famous Presidential quotes of all time.

Our Favorites and the Surprises

We had our own favorites and some surprises. Mostly they were the posts that generated a large number of comments either under the post, on social networks like LinkedIn or verbal feedback from our clients and friends.

All hell broke loose when we published Should You Take Drugs to Overcome Your Fear of Speaking? Pill BottleMany people thought we were advocating the use of drugs. We weren’t. We were simply suggesting that a speaker should visit his doctor to determine if a beta blocker might possibly help relieve severe anxiety over speaking in public or participating in a media interview.

We got a lot of fun feedback for one of my favorite posts, To Hug or Not to Hug: That is the Dilemma. Have you noticed everyone is hugging when they meet? Shaking hands has become so passé.
